Tourists give Sitges a score of 8.47 on the main international tourism websites
Sitges stands out as one of the most highly rated tourist destinations by visitors. According to figures from the Online Tourism Reputation Monitor 2025, the town gained an overall score of 8.47 out of 10, based on an analysis of 117,171 opinions published between 2024 and 2025 in the main international tourism websites. This new monitor forms part of the Smart Tourism System being rolled out by Sitges Town Council as part of the Destination Tourism Sustainability Plan (PSTD), financed using EU Next Generation funds. The system integrates different sources of information to monitor tourist activity and facilitate more efficient and sustainable management based on data.
The study shows a constant improvement in the perception of the destination since 2021 and confirms the high degree of satisfaction among tourists with the Sitges experience. The global online reputation index (iRON) has increased from 8.31 to 8.47. Tourist attractions were the area that rated the best, with a score of 8.92 out of 10 (8.79 in 2021), followed by restaurants (8.54 compared to a previous score of 8.31) and accommodation (8.35 compared to 8.19 five years ago). The most outstanding services include tourist offices, which gained an excellent rating with 9.7 points. For their part, the beaches continue to be one of the main elements that draw opinions and comments from visitors.
The study also values the balance of the destination’s tourist markets. Some 52% of the opinions analysed correspond to national visitors and 48% to international visitors. Among these, travellers from the USA stand out as those who rate the Sitges experience the best, with an overall score of 8.64 points.
Another important aspect is deseasonalisation. Nearly 65% of opinions are recorded outside of the summer months, which reflects the town’s capacity to attract visitors all year round.
The Councillor for Tourism at Sitges Town Council, Xavier Ripoll, valued the results of the study noting that “these data confirm for us that Sitges continues to offer a quality tourist experience, based on authenticity, welcome and diversity in its options”. Ripoll also pointed out the importance of having analytical tools to guide tourist policies and added that “the new Smart Tourism System allows us to take decisions based on more complete and detailed information, and to move towards a more sustainable and balanced tourism model, adapted to the real needs of the destination.
EU Next Generation Destination Tourism Sustainability Plans
In May 2023, Sitges received €5 M as part of the Destination Tourism Sustainability Plans financed by EU Next Generation funds within the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. As part of this plan, eleven municipal and tourism projects are being carried out and are due to be completed on 30 June 2026. The Smart System is one of the projects included in this subsidy and the coming months will see the publication of the tool with important information accessible to the public.
